For Group R-3 and Group U occupancies, the distance requirement shall be <br />400 feet. This distance may be further modified by the fire code official for <br />such occupancies when buildings are equipped throughout with an approved <br />fire sprinkler system installed in accordance with sections 903.3.1.1, 903.3.1.2 <br />or 903.3.1.3. <br />15.16.160. Section 509 amended. Section 509 of the California Fire Code is hereby <br />amended by adding the following: <br />509.2.1 Access to equipment in multi -unit buildings. When automatic fire sprinkler <br />systems or fire alarm systems are installed in buildings constructed for multiple tenants <br />and these systems protect multiple tenant spaces, the main controls and control <br />appurtenances, such as risers, fire alarm control panels, and valves for such systems, <br />shall be located in an attached or included room or an approved weather resistant <br />enclosure with at least one exterior access door of not less than 3'-0" by 6'-8". <br />15.016.170. Section 901.4.2 amended. Section 901.4.2 of the California Fire Code is <br />hereby amended to read as follows: <br />901.4.2 Non -required fire protection systems. Any fire protection system or portion <br />thereof not required by this code or the California Building Code shall be allowed to <br />be furnished provided such installed system meets the requirements of this code and <br />the California Building Code. <br />15.16.180. Section 903.2 amended. Section 903.2 of the California Fire Code is <br />hereby amended to read as follows: <br />903.2 Where required. Approved automatic sprinkler systems in new buildings or <br />structures shall be provided in locations described in this section regardless of fire <br />resistive separation walls. <br />In all existing structures and occupancies not equipped with an automatic sprinkler <br />system, the following requirements shall apply: <br />1. For existing buildings smaller than 5,000 square feet in gross floor area, when an <br />addition causes the structure to exceed 5,000 square feet and such addition is equal <br />to or greater than 50% of the existing square footage, the entire structure shall be <br />provided with an automatic sprinkler system. <br />23152.06300\8351650.2 <br />- 13 - <br />
