2018 JANAURY 25 SPEC MTNG JOINT CC/PLANNING COMMISSION 2 <br /> <br />Attorney Jim Priest of BB&K and Douglas Johnson, Consultant, National Demographics <br />Corporation presented a summary of the process and discussion of proposed district maps: <br />“Current Match” or “Downtown Split II”. <br /> <br />Pursuant to State law, any Council restructuring of this nature must be approved by a majority <br />vote of Colton voters; a draft of the proposed Resolution and Ordinance were reviewed that <br />would place the Measure on the ballot for the November 6, 2018 General Municipal Election. <br /> <br />The Colton Planning Commission must hold one public hearing for an examination as to the <br />definiteness and certainty of the boundaries of the districts proposed by the Measure, and to <br />make certain required findings with respect to the districting map under State Law. <br /> <br />The Colton City Council must then hold two public hearings, the first to adjust the boundaries of <br />the proposed districts and the second to consider placing the proposal on the ballot. <br /> <br />Council/Planning Commission Discussion <br />Discussion by Councilmembers/Planning Commissioners present with clarification provided by <br />staff: Asst. City Attorney Martinez; Attorney Priest; and Consultant Johnson. <br /> <br />Motion and Second by CM Navarro/Mayor DeLaRosa to move forward placing the measure to <br />reduce the number of City Councilmembers to four with at-large Mayor on the November 6, <br />2018 General Municipal Election and selection of the “Current Match” Map as the new City <br />Council Electoral District boundaries. <br />Vote: Motion carried with CM Suchil voting NO; and CM Toro absent. <br /> <br />ADJOURNMENT <br />At 6:49 p.m., Mayor DeLaRosa and Chairperson Prieto adjourned the Special Council Meeting. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> _________________________________ <br />Carolina R.
