3 <br />4 <br />5 <br />6 <br />7 <br />8 <br />9 <br />10 <br />11 <br />12 <br />13 <br />14 <br />15 <br />16 <br />17 <br />18 <br />19 <br />20 <br />21 <br />22 <br />23 <br />24 <br />25 <br />26 <br />27 <br />28 <br />ORDINANCE NO. 0-01-99 <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF COLTON ADDING SECTION <br />2.04.020 AND AMENDING SECTION 2.06.020 OF TBE COLTON <br />MUNICIPAL CODE CONCERNING THE OFFICE OF MAYOR <br />PRO TEWORE <br />THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLTON DOES ORDAIN AS <br />SECTION 1: A new Section 2.04.020 of the Colton Municipal Code is hereby added <br />read as follows: <br />"2.04.020 Selection of Mayor Pro Tempore. <br />The city council shall select a member of the city council to serve as mayor pro <br />tempore by a majority vote of the full city council at a regular open meeting. Candidates shall be <br />nominated solely by city council members, and the city clerk shall record the nominations. All <br />nominations for mayor pro tempore having been made and recorded, the city council shall vote. <br />Immediately following the selection, the city clerk shall administer the oath of office and the mayor pro <br />tempore shall be installed. The mayor pro tempore shall serve for a term of two (2) years or until the <br />expiration of his or her term of city council office, whichever occurs sooner. <br />The city council may also designate a long-standing member of the city council to the <br />position of mayor pro tempore emeritus. The position of mayor pro tempore emeritus shall be <br />ceremonial with no additional duties beyond those as a member of the city council." <br />SECTION 2: Section 2.06.020 of the Colton Municipal Code is hereby amended to <br />read as follows: <br />"2.06.020 Closed session procedures. <br />The mayor, mayor pro tempore, chairperson or vice chairperson, as applicable, <br />shall be responsible for ensuring that procedural requirements, other than requirements for notice, are <br />fulfilled when a closed session of the city council, committees or commissions, or the redevelopment <br />agency, respectively, is held pursuant to the provisions of the Brown Act. The city clerk or the <br />assistant secretary, in coordination with the city attorney or general counsel, shall be responsible for <br />fulfilling any notice requirements relating to closed sessions held by the city council, city committees <br />or commissions, or the redevelopment agency, respectively." <br />SECTION 3: The City Clerk shall certify to the passage of this Ordinance and cause <br />same or a summary thereof to be published within fifteen (15) days after adoption in a newspaper <br />of general circulation, printed and published in Colton, California, and the Ordinance shall take effect <br />thirty (30) days after its enactment in accordance with the provisions of California law. <br />
