R-36-90 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLTON, <br />STATE OF CALIFORNIA, SUPPORTING THE RAIL TRANSPORTATION <br />BOND ACT. <br />WHEREAS, Proposition 116, the Rail Transportation Bond Act, would <br />provide $1.99 billion to improve and expand intercity, commuter and light rail <br />transit throughout California; and, <br />WHEREAS, Proposition 116 is compatible and consistent with the <br />other transportation measures on the June 5, 1990 ballot, and thereby will <br />result in implementation of part of an overall transportation plan which will <br />provide better transportation and cleaner air for all Californians; and, <br />WHEREAS, Proposition 116 provides that $98 million shall be <br />allocated for the San Bernardino -Los Angeles rail corridor for expenditure for <br />commuter rail; <br />WHEREAS, Proposition 116 provides that $79 million shall be <br />allocated for the San Bernardino -Riverside -Orange County rail corridor for ex- <br />penditure for commuter rail; <br />WHEREAS, Proposition 116 provides that $20 million shall be <br />allocated to fund a program of competitive grants to local agencies for capital <br />outlay for bicycle improvement projects which improve safety and convenience <br />for bicycle commuters; <br />WHEREAS, Proposition 116 provides that $100 million shall be <br />allocated to fund a competitive program for the acquisition of specified <br />commuter and intercity rail car and locomotives without the requirement of any <br />matching funds; <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Colton believes that rail <br />transportation results in less energy use, more transportation opportunities <br />for those who cannot drive, less congestion on already overcrowded streets <br />and highways, and cleaner air. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and City Council <br />of the City of Colton do hereby support the passage of Proposition 116 on the <br />June 5, 1990 ballot. <br />DATE: May 1, 1990. . <br />FRANK r. 0 ES <br />Ma o <br />ATTEST: <br />��r�.rJQ• /�l��n-ate/ <br />HELEN RAMS <br />City Clerk <br />
