ITEM #17 <br />CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF May 2, 2006 <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL <br />FROM: KENNETH RULON, CHIEF OF POLICE <br />SUBJECT: APPROVE ACCEPTANCE OF STATE ASSET FORFEITURE <br />PROCEEDS IN THE AMOUNT OF $14,529.83 AND ADOPT BUDGET <br />AMENDMENT. <br />DATE: April 24, 2006 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Pursuant to Health and Safety Code Section 11489(b)(2)(A)(i), the Police Department is required <br />to allocate 15% of its State asset forfeiture funds to be used for drug abuse and gang prevention <br />programs and educational materials. As the Police Department receives State asset forfeiture <br />funds, 15% of the funds are deposited into the Department's Drug and Gang Prevention Fund. <br />Currently, the accumulated total is $14,529.83. <br />DISCUSSION / ANALYSIS: <br />To continue our drug awareness and gang prevention programs the Police Department will utilize <br />the Drug and Gang Prevention Fund to purchase literature and other handout material such as <br />color books, pencils, rulers, sticker, and similar items to promote anti-drug and gang prevention <br />awareness. These materials are typically distributed in the local schools and youth programs to <br />remind children to avoid drugs and gang associations. Additionally, informational materials may <br />be purchased and distributed at the Police Department's Parent Project classes to assist parents <br />in dealing with their children who may be currently involved in gangs and/or drugs. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />The accompanying Resolution is required to access this Drug Abuse and Gang Prevention Fund <br />and to amend the 2005/2006 Fiscal Budget in the amount of $14,529.83 <br />CONFLICT OF INTEREST — Gift Disclosure Requirements <br />None. <br />Staff recommends that the City Council approve and adopt the accompanying Resolution for the <br />Drug Abuse and Gang Prevention Fund, currently in the amount of $14,529.83. <br />Attachments: Resolution <br />Prepared by: Bill Burrows, Lieutenant <br />REVIEW TEAM ONLY 1 <br />City Attorney:t'k .
