ITEM #17 <br />CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />FOR THE COUNCIL MEETING OF AUGUST 15, 2006 <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL <br />FROM: DILU DE ALWIS, FINANCE DIRECTOR V <br />SUBJECT: AWARD BID FOR TWO FORD EXPLORERS TO FAIRVIEW <br />FORD IN THE AMOUNT OF $51,759.05 <br />DATE: AUGUST 2, 2006 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />During the budget process the Fire Department sought to extend the life of its fleet by <br />obtaining approval to replace the Fire Chiefs and Fire Marshal's vehicles by purchasing <br />two (2) new Ford Explorers. Each of their existing vehicles have over 100,000 miles on <br />them and will be cycled down through the department. One will replace a 1992 Ford Crown <br />Victoria with 120,000 miles on it (Fire Safety Specialist) and one will be available for the <br />pending Disaster Preparedness Coordinator. On June 20, 2006 the City Council approved <br />the budget supporting these purchases. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: <br />Diligent effort was made to solicit competitive proposals for two Ford Explorers. On July <br />17`h, 2006 the Request for Bid was distributed to 16 potential bidders via the City's online <br />bidding system: www.TheNetworkBidSyste.com. An electronic Bid Opening was held at <br />2:00 P.M. on July, 31, 2006. Sealed (encrypted) bids were received from the following: <br />1. Fairview Ford $48,020.00 <br />2. Chino Hills <br />$48,411.00 <br />3. Redlands Ford <br />$48,484.00 <br />4. Moss Bros Ford <br />$48,526.00 <br />5. Pasadena Ford <br />$49,200.00 <br />A bid abstract is attached showing prices quoted by each vendor and any exceptions <br />noted. The recommended vendor's price is high -lighted in Blue (plus tax and tire fee). <br />Local Preference: The difference between the bids submitted by Fairview Ford and Moss <br />Bros Ford is greater than 1 %. <br />
