ITEM ##11 <br />CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF October 3, 2006 <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL <br />FROM: Tom Hendrix, Fire Chief <br />SUBJECT: Approve Acceptance of State Homeland Security Grant FY <br />2005 in the amount of $18,122.00 and Consider a Resolution <br />Amending the Budget for Fiscal Year Commencing July 1, <br />2006 and Ending June 30, 2007 <br />DATE: October 3, 2006 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />As part of the national effort to prepare for potential terrorist attacks, the United States <br />Department of Homeland Security made grant funds available to local first responders. <br />This funding is administered through the State Homeland Security Grant Program and <br />locally through San Bernardino County OES. The grant is available on a reimbursement <br />basis and does not require matching funds. <br />The Federal Government has mandated that the funds be earmarked for the following <br />categories: equipment, exercises, training, and planning and administration. Expenditures <br />in the equipment category were required to come from federally approved equipment lists. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: <br />The grant, in the amount of $18,122, has been approved by the State Office of Homeland <br />Security and the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors. The grant funds received <br />by the Fire Department will be expended in the equipment category and will be used to <br />purchase EMS equipment, and USAR Search and Rescue equipment. <br />The grant requires that we purchase the equipment and then submit a reimbursement <br />application to San Bernardino County OES. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />Acceptance of the State Homeland Security Grant requires an amendment to the 2006- <br />2007 Fiscal Year Budget, increasing the Revenue Estimate in Account Number 225-5879 <br />in the amount of $18,122, and the increase of appropriations in Fire Department Account <br />Number 225-6090-6091-4930 in the amount of $18,122. <br />
