DATE: DECEMBER 4, 2006 BACKGROUND: On November 17, 2006, the State of California, Department of General Services — Telecommunications Division awarded the City of Colton Police Department a Grant in the amount of $1,636.22 to be used to purchase materials and supplies to provide 9-1-1 classroom instruction to kindergarten and elementary school children. The accompanying Resolution is required to accept this Grant and to amend the budget in the amount of $1,636.22. DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: The Department of General Services — Telecommunications Division Grant was awarded to applicant cities who expressed a commitment to provide 9-1-1 instruction to kindergarten and elementary age school children. Funds will be used to purchase materials and supplies necessary to provide the instruction. Funding for the project is by reimbursement and does not require any matching funds. The goal of the instruction is to teach children how to save lives and property through the proper use of 9-1-1. FINANCIAL IMPACT: The accompanying Resolution is required to accept this Grant and to amend the 2006/2007 Fiscal Budget in the amount of $1,636.22. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: None. CONFLICT OF INTEREST — Gift Disclosure Requirements None. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the City Council approve acceptance of the State of California, Department of General Services — Telecommunications Division Grant in the amount of 1,636.22 and Adopt the Resolution.
