ITEM #13 <br />CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />FOR THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING OF DECEMBER 19, 2006 <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS <br />FROM: AMER JAKHER, P.E., PW DIRECTOR/CITY ENGINEER <br />SUBJECT: APPROVE CHANGE ORDER NO.1 FOR THE CITYWIDE <br />SLURRY SEAL PROJECT AND SLURRY SEAL PHASE VI <br />PROJECT, IN THE AMOUNT OF $37,755.59; AUTHORIZE <br />RECORDATION OF THE NOTICE OF COMPLETION FOR THE <br />CITYWIDE SLURRY SEAL PROJECT AND SLURRY SEAL <br />PHASE VI PROJECT. <br />DATE: DECEMBER 11, 2006 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />On July 18, 2006, the City Council authorized the award of Citywide Slurry Seal Project to <br />American Asphalt South, Inc. in the amount of $392,588.65. The project included selected streets <br />within the City of Colton as shown on attached map (Exhibit "A"). The scope of work for this <br />project included sealing cracks along streets with minor damage, then overlaying these streets with <br />slurry seal to perpetuate the life of the existing pavement; street stripping and pavement markings <br />were replaced after the sealing. <br />Streets included on this project were streets which showed signs of pavement stress but were not <br />yet ready for rehabilitation or reconstruction. <br />ANALYSIS/DISCUSSION: <br />American Asphalt South, Inc. completed the project satisfactorily as specified on contract <br />documents, plans, and specification in the amount of $430,344.24. This amount was higher than the <br />contract amount of $392,588.65 as a result of Change Order No. 1 (Exhibit B) requested by the City <br />in the amount of $37,755.59 (9.6% of contract amount). The Change Order added the following <br />streets and parking areas to the scope of the project: <br />1. Valley Blvd — La Cadena Drive to Rail Road <br />2. Valley Blvd. — 3rd Street to Rancho Ave. <br />3. Rancho Ave — Valley Blvd. to F Street. <br />4. Gonzales and Hutton center Parking Area. <br />
