CITY OF COLTON ITEM #6 <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF January 16, 2007 <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL <br />FROM: Tom Hendrix, Fire Chief <br />SUBJECT: Approve Request for Recruitment and Ratification of Employee <br />Appointment to the Position of Fire Safety Specialist. <br />DATE: January 8, 2007 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The Fire Department is requesting approval to establish an eligibility list for the position of Fire <br />Safety Specialist in The Fire Department. The salary range is $3,743 - $4,550. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: <br />The Fire Safety Specialist is responsible for a wide range of duties in the Fire Safety Division <br />including fire prevention inspections and coordinating the department's public education <br />program. This position has been vacant since January 2, 2007. <br />Recruitment for said position will be conducted and an eligibility list will be established upon <br />Council approval. The candidate chosen will meet the education and experience requirements <br />as specified in the job description. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />Funds for the position have been budgeted in the 2006-07 Fiscal Year in Account Number 100- <br />6090-6092-1010 (Salaries) and 100-6090-6092-1100 (Salary Related Benefits). <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: <br />None. <br />CONFLICT OF INTEREST <br />None. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff recommends that the City Council approve the request for recruitment and ratification of <br />employee appointment to the full-time position of Fire Safety Specialist. <br />
