CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR CITY COUNCIL MEETING OF
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council Members
FROM: Bill Smith — Community Services Director
SUBJECT: Request Approval for Recruitment and Ratification of Employee
Appointment to the Position of Recreation Services Coordinator in
the Community Services Department
DATE:
February 21, 2007
ITEM #5
BACKGROUND:
The Community Services Department is requesting to recruit and appoint a Recreation Services
Coordinator in the Recreation Division. The Recreation Coordinator position is a recognized
position in the recreation profession, and is typically the entry-level full-time position. The
Recreation Division currently has two (2) Coordinators on -staff who oversee programs at three (3)
community centers, as well as throughout the community. The current salary range is $3,205 to
$3,896.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS:
The addition of this position will allow for a full-time recreation professional to be onsite at each of
our three (3) community centers. Currently there is not always a full-time staff member onsite
during programming at the Gonzales, Luque, and Hutton Community Centers. While adequate
supervision is always in-place during programming, having a full-time recreation professional on -
hand during programming will greatly enhance the quality and quantity of programming at all three
(3) community centers. The impact of this staff addition will be particularly beneficial to the Luque
Center, allowing for greater staff supervision and enhanced programming for the diverse
population of both senior citizens and youth that frequent the site.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
This added position was requested by the Community Services Department as part of the Mid -year
Budget for fiscal year 2006-07, and was approved by City Council on February 20, 2007. The
position is budgeted, as a result of the approved Mid -year Budget adjustments, and is accounted -
for in the 100-6200-6202 expenditure account group.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
None
CONFLICT OF INTEREST:
None
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that City Council approve the request for recruitment and ratification of an
employee appointment to the position of Recreation Services Coordinator in the Recreation
Division of the Community Services Department.
REVIEW TEAM ONLY
City Attorney:
City Manager:
Finance Director: b• b-ts 163L
HR Director: f) .
