ITEM #18
CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR THE MEETING OF JUNE 19, 2007
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS
FROM: AMER JAKHER, P.E., CITY ENGINEER
SUBJECT: APPROVE RENEWAL OF THE AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE
OF COLTON AND COUNTY OF SAN BERNARDINO FOR H,
HOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE SERVICES.
DATE: JUNE 13, 2007
BACKGROUND:
The City of Colton currently provides its residents household hazardous waste collection services by
contracting with the County of San Bernardino. The County provides contract services to the cities
of Colton, Loma Linda, Victorville and San Bernardino, which do not have a household hazardous
waste collection centers provided by the city. The County provides these cities residents a vehicle for
disposal of hazardous waste from their homes. All items taken to the county for disposal are
recycled when possible and then treated and disposed.
ANALYSIS/DISCUSSION:
The city's existing agreement with the County of San Bernardino Fire for household hazardous waste
(HHW) disposal services was for a term beginning in July 1, 2002 and ending June 30, 2007. The
proposed agreement, attached as Exhibit `B,' will provide city residents the same services available
to them now through June 30, 2012. In addition to the disposal services the County provides, County
staff is also present at all major city events to provide Colton residents information regarding these
available services and proper disposal of hazardous items.
This agreement requires compensation on a quarterly basis established by the following factors: 1)
population of the city for each year as estimated by the Sate of California Department of Finance and
2) per capita value. In fiscal year 2007/2008 the total compensation will total approximately
$61,101.00.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
None.
