ITEM #18 <br />CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />FOR THE MEETING OF JUNE 19, 2007 <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS <br />FROM: AMER JAKHER, P.E., CITY ENGINEER <br />SUBJECT: APPROVE RENEWAL OF THE AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE <br />OF COLTON AND COUNTY OF SAN BERNARDINO FOR H, <br />HOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE SERVICES. <br />DATE: JUNE 13, 2007 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The City of Colton currently provides its residents household hazardous waste collection services by <br />contracting with the County of San Bernardino. The County provides contract services to the cities <br />of Colton, Loma Linda, Victorville and San Bernardino, which do not have a household hazardous <br />waste collection centers provided by the city. The County provides these cities residents a vehicle for <br />disposal of hazardous waste from their homes. All items taken to the county for disposal are <br />recycled when possible and then treated and disposed. <br />ANALYSIS/DISCUSSION: <br />The city's existing agreement with the County of San Bernardino Fire for household hazardous waste <br />(HHW) disposal services was for a term beginning in July 1, 2002 and ending June 30, 2007. The <br />proposed agreement, attached as Exhibit `B,' will provide city residents the same services available <br />to them now through June 30, 2012. In addition to the disposal services the County provides, County <br />staff is also present at all major city events to provide Colton residents information regarding these <br />available services and proper disposal of hazardous items. <br />This agreement requires compensation on a quarterly basis established by the following factors: 1) <br />population of the city for each year as estimated by the Sate of California Department of Finance and <br />2) per capita value. In fiscal year 2007/2008 the total compensation will total approximately <br />$61,101.00. <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: <br />None. <br />
