CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF July 17, 2007 <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL <br />FROM: B. Miller, Chief of Police <br />SUBJECT: Approve and adopt a full-time salary resolution for Police Captain <br />DATE: July 3, 2007 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The Police Department recently re-established the position of Police Captain. The position has <br />been vacant for over three years. During this vacancy the salary was not updated to keep pace <br />with salary increases for lower ranking positions. The current salary range for the captain <br />position is $7,281 to $8,853. The salary range being proposed is benchmarked 10% above the <br />lieutenant salary and is $ $8,471-$10,296. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: <br />Due to the long term vacancy in this position, the salary has not kept pace and it is necessary to <br />increase the pay. We are recommending a 10% benchmark above the position of Police <br />Lieutenant to prevent current compaction of salary. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />There will be no financial impact in the 2007/2008 fiscal year as adequate funding was approved. <br />The incumbent will be classified at a lower step; therefore no additional funds are needed. <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: <br />None <br />CONFLICT OF INTEREST — Gift Disclosure Requirements <br />►= <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff recommends the City Council approve the attached full-time salary resolution amendment <br />effective the pay period beginning July 1, 2007. <br />Attachment: Resolution <br />Prepared by: <br />REVIEW TEAM ONLY <br />City Attorney:904lirwe Finance Director: <br />City Manager: HR Director: <br />ITEM #9 <br />
