ITEM #13 CITY OF COLTON AGENDA REPORT FOR THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING OF SEPTEMBER 4, 2007 TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS FROM: AMER JAKHER, P.E., PW DIRECTOR/CITY ENGINEER SUBJECT: AWARD OPTIONAL BID ITEM VII (FAIRWAY DRIVE WIDENING PROJECT) AS CHANGE ORDER NO.2 FOR CDBG PROJECT #104-31105 AND 104-31305 IN THE AMOUNT OF $41,637.48. DATE: AUGUST 13, 2007 BACKGROUND: On September 19, 2006, a construction contract was awarded by Council for the following capital projects: CDBG Project #104-31105/2765, CDBG Project #104-31305/2767, Safe Route to School Project, Rancho Mill Redevelopment Projects, and Carreon Street Closure Project. The construction agreement was awarded to the lowest responsive and responsible bidder to Portsmouth Construction, in the amount of $676,566.10. Subsequently, on June 5, 2007 Council authorized staff to award a change order to the contractor in the amount of $45,880.02. The compensation reflected by the contract and change order totaled $722,446.12; the change order was resulted from design changes required to install the project improvements. The locations and specific improvements provided by each project are as follows: I. CDBG Project A. CDBG Project #104-31105/2765 — Installation of missing curb, gutter, sidewalk, driveway approach and handicap ramps on Redlands Avenue (Olive to Laurel Street), Lemon Street (Redlands to Mt. Vernon Avenue), Laurel Avenue (Olive to Laurel Street), 10th Street (Olive to B Street), 12th Street (`C` to `A' Street)., and B Street (10th Street to Colton Avenue). B. CDBG Project #104-31305/2767 - Installation of missing curb, gutter, sidewalk, and handicap ramps on Olive Street (Bordwell to La Cadena), Bordwell (La Cadena to Olive), 9th Street (Olive to La Cadena), and 10th Street (Olive to La Cadena). 11. Safe Route to School Project — Installation of missing curb, gutter, sidewalk, handicap ramps, block wall, alley and driveway approach on Terrace Avenue (between C Street and Olive Street) and Olive Avenue (between Pennsylvania Avenue and Rancho Avenue).
