ITEM #7 <br />CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF December 18, 2007 <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL <br />FROM: BOB MILLER, CHIEF OF POLICE <br />SUBJECT: REQUEST FOR RECRUITMENT AND RATIFICATION OF <br />EMPLOYEE APPOINTMENT TO THE FULL-TIME POSITION OF <br />COMMUNITY SERVICES OFFICER. <br />DATE: December 5, 2007 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The Police Department has in its 2007/08 fiscal year budget five full-time positions for <br />Community Services Officer. A transfer within the Department has left one of those <br />positions vacant. The Department is seeking approval to recruit and fill this Community <br />Services Officer position. The current salary range for a Community Services Officer is <br />$3,001 to $3,647 per month. <br />DISCUSSION 1 ANALYSIS: <br />Community Services Officers are assigned to various duties and tasks within the Police <br />Department. They include; report taking and victim interviewing, emergency assistance at <br />crime and traffic collision scenes, dispatch, field identification work, property impound, <br />coordinate and schedule vehicle and building maintenance, operate law enforcement <br />computer terminals and databases, compilation and tabulation of statistical data reports, <br />case filing with the District Attorney's office, assist in animal control duties, and other non- <br />hazardous law enforcement related duties as assigned. A recent transfer has created a <br />vacancy for this position. The Police Department is seeking Council approval to recruit <br />for and fill this post. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />Funds for this position are budgeted for Fiscal Year 2007-2008 in account # 100-6070- <br />6072-1000/1100 (Salary and Benefits). No additional budget is required at this time. <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: <br />None <br />CONFLICT OF INTEREST: <br />ILI0 iT' <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />
