CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF FEBRUARY 5, 2008 <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL <br />FROM: Jeannette Olko, Electric Utility General Manager <br />ITEM #5 <br />SUBJECT: Approve Request for Recruitment and Ratification of Employee <br />Appointment to the Full-time Position of Power Line Technician <br />Apprentice in the Electric Department. <br />DATE: January 29, 2007 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Due to the difficulty hiring qualified journey level power line technicians, the Electric Utility has <br />established an apprenticeship program. The Electric Utility has the ability to train and educate its <br />apprentices' to the level of Journeyman. There is a need to continuously train qualified personnel <br />to meet the Utility's needs in order to maintain steady and reliable service to the citizens of Colton. <br />The salary range for the Power Line Technician Apprentice is $4,996-$6,073 per month. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS:. <br />There are currently two vacancies for Power Line Technician. The Electric Utility would like to <br />continue its Apprentice Training Program and under fill the vacant positions with Power Line <br />Technician Apprentices. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />The existing vacant positions are budgeted for the 2007/08 fiscal year, in Account Number 520- <br />8000-8004-1010-0580-000, Electric Department/Transmission and Distribution, Miscellaneous <br />Salaries.
