ITEM #17 <br />CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF AUGUST 19, 2008 <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL <br />FROM: MARITZA TAPIA, INTERIM PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR <br />SUBJECT: APPROVE RESOLUTION AMENDING THE FISCAL YEAR <br />2008/2009 CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM IN THE <br />AMOUNT OF $11,000; APPROVE CHANGE ORDER NO. 1 IN <br />THE AMOUNT OF $16,967.00; AUTHORIZE RECORDATION <br />OF NOTICE OF COMPLETION FOR ORANGE STREET AND <br />PLEASANT VIEW STORM DRAIN IMPROVEMENT PROJECT. <br />DATE: AUGUST 11, 2008 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The neighborhood of Orange Avenue and Pleasant View <br />rainy seasons. The drainage infrastructure servicin€ <br />improvement. While the preexisting storm drain system <br />experienced along these streets, it was not capacitated ti <br />needed improvements to this storm drain system were <br />existing storm drain pipe. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: <br />Avenue has experienced flooding during <br />these streets was identified to need <br />was able to redirect daily surface runoff <br />function properly when it rained. The <br />achieved by increasing the size of the <br />On May 6, 2008, the City Council authorized the award of a construction agreement for the <br />Orange Street and Pleasant View Storm Drain Improvement Project to Noriega Engineering in the <br />amount of $68,231.00. A Notice to Proceed for this project was issued on June 5, 2008 and the <br />project was completed as of June 12, 2008. <br />Noriega Engineering completed the project satisfactorily as specified on the project plans and <br />specifications, in the amount of $85,198.00. The final project's construction cost is higher than the <br />awarded contract amount, as a result of Change Order No. 1 (Exhibit B), which totaled $16,967.00 <br />(24.86% of contract amount). Change Order No. 1 was requested by the City to accommodate <br />design changes needed to allow for installation of additional RCP (reinforced concrete pipe) and <br />a larger catch basin to allow for proper flow and transition into the City's storm drain system. In <br />addition, the concrete work resulted in small quantity variances needed to complete the awarded <br />work. Staff requests award of Change Order No. 1 to Noriega Engineering and authorization to <br />record the Notice of Completion for the Orange Avenue and Pleasant View Storm Drain <br />Improvement Project. <br />7/10/03 City Clerk's Office Cb <br />
