ITEM #9 CITY OF COLTON AGENDA REPORT FOR THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING OF AUGUST 4, 2009 TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS FROM: MARITZA TAPIA, INTERIM PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR SUBJECT: AUTHORIZATION TO FILE NOTICE OF COMPLETION AND APPROVE FINAL CHANGE ORDER TO JAGUAR ENTERPRISES, INC. IN THE AMOUNT OF $22,800.00, FOR THE GONZALES COMMUNITY CENTER POOL RE -PLASTERING PROJECT. DATE: JULY 09, 2009 BACKGROUND: The Gonzales Center Pool was built in 1997 and has been in use by Colton residents ever since. The pool is located at the Gonzales Community Center and is used for many public aquatic activities and events. The pool is approximately 5700 square feet in size, with a depth ranging from 3'6" to 5'. The pool has been maintained throughout the years by city staff and maintenance contractors. The pool has had minor upgrades and repairs completed throughout its past with the most recent repair completed in 2000. With year round operations and usage the pool is in need of re -plastering and upgrades to all pool equipment. In March 2009, Staff solicited informal bids for the Gonzales Community Center Pool Re -plastering Project. Jaguar Enterprise Inc was the lowest bidder. On April 07, 2009 the City Council authorized the award of a construction agreement for the Gonzales Community Center Pool Re -plastering Project to Jaguar Enterprise, Inc., in the amount of $92,600.00. The awarded work included the following improvements: re -plaster of pool surface, replace tiles as needed, replace pool fitting, and installation of needed signage and markers. ANALYSIS/DISCUSSION: A Notice to Proceed for this project was issued on May 13, 2009. During the construction of the identified improvements it was deemed necessary to replace the existing gutter grates due to years of exposure to the sun and pool chemicals. Staff requests approval of the attached change order, Exhibit B, for the pool grates removal and replacement,in the amount of $22,800.00 (24.6% of awarded contract); contract total will be $115,400. As of July 6, 2009, Jaguar Enterprise, Inc completed the project satisfactorily as specified on the contract, plans and specifications. Staff requests authorization to file and record the Notice of Completion for the Gonzales Community Center Pool Re -plastering Project; attached as Exhibit A.
