CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
For Council Meeting of April 6, 1993
TO: Honorable Mayor and CityCouncll /
1G y , z7
FROM: wFy E. Decker, flublic Utilities Director
SUBJECT: 16" Water Transmission Line Installation
as a Part of the FAD Washington St./Roche
Canyon Rd./Hunts Ln. Street Improvements
BACKGROUND:
Date: March 23, 1993
Matich Corporation has been awarded the contract for storm drains and street
intersection construction improvements of Washington St./Reche Canyon Rd./Hunte Ln.
Street Improvements Project. It has been determined that a 16" water main needs to be
installed across Washington Street. The installation of the water main at this time
will prevent tearing up the street at a future date for its installation.
Matich Corporation has obtained bids from several contractors (attached), and also made
a bid on the construction work. The lowest bidder is CP Construction Company, Inc. in
the amount of $21,853.00. Subsequent to this bid submittal, it was determined that an
additional blow -off valve will need to be installed at a low point on the water main.
CP Construction has indicated that they could install the blow -off valve for a cost of
$2,896.00. Staff considers this to be a reasonable additional cost.
Duane Sharp, the resident engineer, has prepared a no -cost change order for the
CALTRANS project, which requires their approval. CP Construction will be a sub-
contractor to Matich Corporation for the 16" water main. A change order to the Matich
Corporation's purchase order for the project will be paid through funds from the Water
Main Line Replacement Account.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
Sufficient funds exist in the Water Main Line Replacement Account ;21-9924-89 for this
project.
Staff recommends that Council approve the expenditure of funds from the Water Main Line
Replacement Account in the amount of $24,949.00 ($21,853.00 as per the proposal from
Matich Corporation and $2,896.00 for the water valve) for the installation of the 16"
water line at Washington St./Reche Canyon Rd./Hunte Ln.
GED/lj
CITY MANAGER'S
Attachments:
Page 1 of_
CONCURRENCE⢠
Item No.
