SUBJECT: Consider the designation of Historic Landmarks for the Fountain at La Cadens and "O" Street/South Colton (Landmark #29), the Municipal Park - Colton Avenue and "E" Street (Landmark #34), j Hermosa Cemetery - 900 South Meridian Avenue (Landmark 31), Knopsnyder's Mortuary North and - 404 7th Street (Landmark #32) . BACKGROUND: On December 9, 1992, the Historic and Scenic Preservation Commission reviewed the designation of the following sites as Historic Landmarks within the City of Colton: Landmark #29 Fountain La Cadena and "0" Street/SouthColton Landmark #30 Municipal Park Colton Avenue and T" Street Landmark #31 Hermosa Cemetery 900 South Meridian Avenue Landmark #32 Knopsnyder's Mortuary 404 North 7th Street The designation for the sites were requested by the Historic Commission and was nominated on historical and architectural base;. ,I ANALYSIS: The fduntain at La Cadena Drive and "O" Street, named "La Fuente de Unidad" (Fountain of Unity), was built in 1967 and is significant as a prominent local landmark. E The Muncipal Park on Colton Avenue and "E" Street was built, in 1920, as a living memorial of the boys that went to World War I. The Hermosa Cemetery, name meaning "beautiful and grand", was established in 1877. In 1931, Knopsnyder's Mortuary, located at 4104 North 7th Street, was built, in a Spanish Revival style of architecture, as the second mortuary business in the City.
