TO: <br />HONORABLE MAYOR and CITY COUNCIL <br />FOR: Count' eeting of 1 J a 1993 <br />COPY <br />FROM: D vi ra, ni evelopment Director . <br />SUBJECT: Consider the designation of Historic Landmarks for the <br />Fountain at La Cadens and "O" Street/South Colton (Landmark #29), <br />the Municipal Park - Colton Avenue and "E" Street (Landmark #34), <br />j Hermosa Cemetery - 900 South Meridian Avenue (Landmark 31), <br />Knopsnyder's Mortuary North <br />and - 404 7th Street (Landmark #32) . <br />BACKGROUND: <br />On December 9, 1992, the Historic and Scenic Preservation Commission reviewed the <br />designation of the following sites as Historic Landmarks within the City of Colton: <br />Landmark #29 Fountain La Cadena and "0" Street/SouthColton <br />Landmark #30 Municipal Park Colton Avenue and T" Street <br />Landmark #31 Hermosa Cemetery 900 South Meridian Avenue <br />Landmark #32 Knopsnyder's Mortuary 404 North 7th Street <br />The designation for the sites were requested by the Historic Commission and was <br />nominated on historical and architectural base;. <br />,I ANALYSIS: <br />The fduntain at La Cadena Drive and "O" Street, named "La Fuente de Unidad" (Fountain <br />of Unity), was built in 1967 and is significant as a prominent local landmark. <br />E <br />The Muncipal Park on Colton Avenue and "E" Street was built, in 1920, as a living memorial <br />of the boys that went to World War I. <br />The Hermosa Cemetery, name meaning "beautiful and grand", was established in 1877. <br />In 1931, Knopsnyder's Mortuary, located at 4104 North 7th Street, was built, in a Spanish <br />Revival style of architecture, as the second mortuary business in the City. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />R <br />The designation of the historic landmarks will not create any financial impact on the City. <br />T <br />Agenda Report CCLAND29.CHP <br />Page 1 of 2 Item No. /a.. <br />
