59 <br />CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />For City Council Meeting of August 6, 1996 <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR & CITY COUNCIL <br />APPROVAL: Malik Dantala Freeman, Interim City Manager <br />FROM: Gracie Fernandez Harmon, Personnel Directorf <br />SUBJECT: Approval of Certification Pay for Police Chief 7 <br />DATE: July 24, 1996 <br />BACKGROUND: On January 17, 1995, the City Council set the compensation rate for Police <br />Chief. Direction was also given at that Council meeting to staff to return at a later date for <br />reconsideration of the certification pay. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: All safety classifications in the Police Department are eligible for <br />certification pay. Once qualifying for and receiving certification pay, employees do not lose it <br />upon promotion or transfer within the department. At the January 17, 1996 City Council meeting, <br />staff recommended that the Chief retain his certification pay. Based on earlier Council direction, <br />staff now requests that the City Council reconsider this request. <br />FINANCU IMPACT: Certification pay is $482 per month; $5,302 for the remainder of this <br />fiscal year. Anticipated salary savings for this fiscal year will result in no impact to the general <br />fund.
