VEGA, FINANCE DIRECTOR�_� <br />SUBJECT: AWARD OF BID FOR ANNUAL TREE TRIMMING CONTRACT FOR THE ELECTRIC <br />DEPARTMENT TO ASPLUNDH FOR AN ESTIMATED AMOUNT OF $25,000. <br />DATE: MAY 23, 1996 <br />The Electric Department has had several power outages that have been caused by trees growing into the <br />primary power lines. These trees are located on private property and the Electric Department does not <br />have the necessary equipment to access and trim these trees. <br />On May 3 ,1996, Purchasing advertised for sealed bids to enter into an annual contract for tree trimming <br />services for the Electric Department. This contract will be for the period of July 1, 1996, through June <br />30, 1997. The contract has an option to renew for an additional year at the same prices and terms. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS <br />On May 1, 1996, bid packages were mailed to seven prospective vendors. Bid opening was held at 2:30 <br />p.m., May 22, 1996, in the Purchasing office. Two bids were received. One bid was non-responsive as <br />they did not submit the required bid security. <br />ALTERNATIVES <br />None. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT <br />Funds are available in th lectric Department's <br />Thomas K. Clarke, Electric Utility Director <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT <br />None. <br />1995-96 fiscal year budget, account no. 20-5004-41. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends the bid be awarded to Asplandh for the annual tree trimming contract for the Electric <br />Department in the amount of $25,000. <br />Report prepared by Mary J.
