VEGA, FINANCE DIRECTOR6_1�� SUBJECT: AWARD OF BID FOR TWO PADMOUNTED, LOAD INTERRUPTER SWITCHES FOR THE ELECTRIC DEPARTMENT TO SOUTHWEST POWER IN THE AMOUNT OF $11,049.77 DATE: MAY 28,1996 BACKGROUND Load interrupter switches are used in the City's electric transmission and distribution system. The Electric Department will be adding a new load interrupter switch in the system and the other switch will be retained as a back-up for replacement when needed. DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS On May 14, 1996, Purchasing requested sealed bids for these switches. Bid opening was held at 10:00 a.m., May 28, 1996, in the Purchasing office. Six bids were received and evaluated. The low bid was received from McAvoy & Markham, Inc. Malton. However, the manufacturer of this switch has not been approved by the City Electric Department . The next low bid was received from Cooper Power Systems. They took exception to our specification and quoted an alternate switch, which does not meet our specifications. The third low bid was received from Southwest Power. This switch meets our specification. A Bid Analysis is attached showing price and delivery times quoted by each vendor. The recommended vendor's price is underlined for each item ALTERNATIVES None. FINANCIAL IMPACT Funds are budgeted for these switches in their 1995/96 fiscal year budget in the Electric transmission distribution expense account 20-9706-89. Thomas K.
