TRANSPORTATION/FLOOD CONTROL
DEPARTMENT - COUNTY SURVEYOR
/"6 East Third Street • San Bernardino, CA 92415-0835 • (909) 387.2800
Fax No. (9091387-2667
/
October 24, 1996
Dr. Floyd D. Hansen
Councilmember
City of Colton
650 North La Cadena Dr.
Colton, CA 92324
Dear Councilmember Hansen:
COUNTY OF SAN BERNARDINO
PUBLIC WORKS GROUP
KEN A. MILLER
Director
File: Yard 5, Barton Rd,
orU
1996
Mq yon;S OrC'
The Department has completed a review of the intersection of Barton Road and La Cadena Drive
that we discussed at our meeting on September 19, 1996. I am providing the attached
information for your review. After you have had a chance to take a look at the information please
give me a call and we can either discuss this further over the phone or if you would like, we can
meet and discuss. The report includes information on, among other things, traffic volumes,
accident history, traffic signal and stop sign warrants, a report on the realignment of the
intersection dated May 1993, and photographs of the area.
It appears as you had surmised in our earlier meeting, that the afternoon peak traffic creates a
degraded level of service for westbound traffic entering the intersection from Barton Road. It
would appear that the installation of 3 -way stop signs at the intersection could reduce the
westbound delay for drivers on Barton Road, however, would create some additional delay in
other directions of traffic, not only at peak hour, but during the rest of the day.
I will look forward to discussing this further with you at your convenience.
KAM:rc
Attachment as noted
cc: Jerry Eaves
Barbara Cram Riordan
Sincerely,
KEN A. MILLER
Director
kgenda item No. Z4
:olton City Council Meeting 11-05-96
