CLARKE, UTILITY DIRECTOIi��.�_o..- <br />SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF DIGITAL ORTHOPHQTOGRAPH PRODUCTION FOR THE <br />CfTY'S GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATIQN SYSTEM (GIS) PROJECT <br />DATE: � JU�IE 18, 1997 <br />� <br />BACK6ROUNQ <br />The City of Colton is implementing a, Geographic Inforrnation Sys#em under the leadership of the <br />Electric Utility departmerrt. The devefopment of :this program will require fhe contracting of <br />c�o+�sultants to create various layers of information required far fuli GIS imp{emen#ation. The <br />procurement of the digital orthophotograph layer is a fundamental and cost-saving element to <br />the program. <br />DISCUSSION <br />Attached to #his memo is additional information regarding the City's implementation of GIS. The <br />attachments give de#ailed explanations of GtS and digital orthophotographs and the benefits of <br />both. <br />ALTERNA�IVES <br />We:had seven very well written proposals submitted to us from our RFP. We have chosen our <br />top proposaFwh'rch is also the least cosily.
