TO: <br />FROM: <br />SUBJECT: <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />CITY OF COLTON <br />For City Council Meeting of <br />July 15, 1997 <br />DUPLICA-,rE <br />July 9, 1997 <br />MAYOR GAYTAN, CITY COUNCIL AND CITY MANAGER <br />Julie Hayward Biggs, City Atto404�� <br />Ballot Measure/City Manager Ordinance <br />Over the years it has become quite clear that the City Manager Ordinance which <br />was enacted by a vote of the people in 1962, needs to be amended to conform with current legal <br />requirements and to clarify how a city manager may be retained, whether a contract arrangement <br />is permissible, and what severance terms should apply. Attached is a sample City Manager <br />Ordinance that complies with current law and that may serve as a model for a similar ordinance <br />to be prepared by staff for placement on the November 1997 ballot. <br />At this time, staff is requesting authorization to prepare a ballot measure for <br />placement on the November 1997 ballot for a new city manager's ordinance.
