CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
For the Council Meeting of March 18, 1997
To: Honorable Mayor & City Council
Approval: Malik D. Freeman, City Manager 1
From: Randy Anstine, Neighborhood Services Direc
Subject: Approve Resolution Authorizing Grant Application
through the Tire Recycling Grant Program
Date: March 11, 1997
BACKGROUND:
The State of California through the Integrated Waste Management Board, have made
available monies for the installation of rubberized playground cover. A condition of the
program is that a portion of the rubberized material must be made from recycled tires.
The intent of the program is to divert tires that would otherwise end up in a landfill. The
City presently has awarded a contract for rubberized cover at the Veteran's Park. In
addition, Council approved expending funds for the installation of play equipment and
rubberized cover at Chavez Park. The total approximate cost for both sites is $40,000.
The grant program will fund up to 50% of the total project costs.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
If approved, this grant would reimburse the City up to 50% of the actual construction cost
for installation of rubberized material at both Veteran's and Chavez Parks, but not to
exceed $25,000 total reimbursement.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Reduction of used tires that would normally be disposed of in local landfills.
RECOMMENDATION:
Approve adoption of the attached Resolution, authorizing staff to make application for
funds under the Tire Recycling Grant Program.
Item No. 17
