CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
For Council Meeting of November 18. 1997
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
APPROVAL: Len Wood, Interim City Manager;o
FROM: John C. Hutton, Public Works Director
SUBJECT (FOR INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY)
Response From Consulting Engineer Regarding
Establishing Speed Limits On Washington Street
and Hunts Lane
DATE: November 6, 1997
BACKGROUND:
An engineering study has been prepared to establish speed limits upon the streets.
That study was presented to Council at the meeting of October 21, 1997. At that
meeting, concerns were expressed about two of the streets in that study, Washington
Street and Hunts Lane. The 'Registered Traffic Engineer who prepared the speed zone
study has reviewed these concerns and has submitted a report recommending that the
speed limits be set in accordance with that study.
DISCUSSION:
The Traffic Safety Committee reviewed the engineer's report and concurs with his
finding. Reducing a speed limit without proper justification may create a speed trap
and any contested speeding citations may be dismissed by the courts.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
None.
RECOMMENDATION:
No action is required.
JCH/BB/bjw
Attachments: Engineer's Response
Page _ of _
Item # 2
