Interim Personnel Director <br />ISUBJECT: <br />IDATE: <br />Approval of the Memorandum of Understanding Between the City of <br />Colton and the Colton Police Officers Association <br />October 14, 1997 <br />BACKGROUND: The memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Police Unit expired on <br />June 30, 1996. Representatives of the City and Police Officers Association have been negotiating <br />for a successor MOU over the last several months. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: Representatives of the City and Colton Police Officers Association <br />have reached an agreement with a term to June 30, 1998. The successor MOU is attached as <br />Exhibit A. The changes within the agreement, will be incorporated into a subsequent <br />comprehensive MOU. <br />EI_NANCIAL IMPACT: The cost of the agreement is $156,711 per year. This figure does not <br />include any increase 'in overtime cost that may result from a salary increase, nor does it include <br />any costs related to the Police Management unit. <br />RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that City Council ratify the attached agreement <br />with the Police Unit and authorize staff to sign the comprehensive MOU on behalf of the City. <br />Police MOU.doc <br />
