CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF MAY 19, 1998
TO: Honorable Mayor and City
APPROVAL: Henry Garcia, City
FROM: Tom Hendrix, Acting Fire Chief
SUBJECT: Adopt Resolution to Donate One Surplus Fire Engine
To the San Bernardino Community College District
DATE: May 6,1998
BACKGROUND
The Crafton Hills Fire Technology Program operates a State Fire Marshal Accredited Fire
Academy. This academy provides both didactic and manipulative training for aspiring
firefighters and many of our current personnel have attended.
DISCUSSION / ANALYSIS
The academy makes use of fire engines donated by local fire departments to provide
manipulative training. The Fire Department has a 1971 fire engine with 108,000 miles and is
out of service due to an inoperative fire pump, age and mileage. If donated the college district
will pay for all DMV and other costs related to the transfer of ownership.
ALTERNATIVES
Sell as a surplus vehicle.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
The city will not realize approximately $2,000 that would otherwise be received through the
sale of this apparatus.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
None
RECOMMENDATION
The City Council adopt the attached Resolution donating a 1971 American LaFrance fire
engine to the San Bernardino Community College District.
Attachments: Resolution Item # 5
