Clarke, Utility Director <br />SUBJECT: REQUEST FOR RECRUITMENT AND RATIFICATION OF TWO (2) EMPLOYEE <br />APPOINTMENTS TO THE POSITION OF POWERLINE TECHNICIAN IN THE <br />UTILITY DEPARTMENT <br />DATE: Wednesday, March 15, 2000 <br />BACKGROUND <br />There are two (2) vacant Powerline Technician positions in the Utility Department due to recent <br />resignations. Attached is the job description of the classification; the rate of pay is $26.96 per <br />hour. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS <br />Recruitment for said position will be conducted and an eligibility list established upon Council <br />approval. The candidates chosen will meet the education and experience requirements as <br />specified in the job description. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT <br />Funding availability for this approved enterprise fund position in the fiscal year 1999-2000 <br />budget is funded as follows: Account No. 520-8000-8004-1010-0580 (salary) and Account No. <br />520-8000-8004-1100-0000 (salary related benefits). <br />EXPECTED FILL DATE: 6/19/2000 <br />CUSTOMER SERVICE IMPACT <br />The position provides critically needed professional skills for the maintenance of electrical <br />reliability and construction of new facilities, which includes protection of the public from high <br />voltage and other hazards related to the provision of electric utility service. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />That the City Council approve the recruitment and ratification of the two (2) employee <br />appointments to the full-time position of Powerline Technician as recommended by the Utility <br />Director. <br />Attachment: Job Description <br />Report prepared by: Timothy C.
