Item #13 CITY OF COLTON AGENDA REPORT FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF September 4, 2001 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council APPROVAL: Daryl Parrish, City Manager FROM: Ron Kenny, Parks, Recreation & Family Services Director SUBJECT: Adoption of Childcare Latchkey Contract with the State Department of Education for fiscal year 2001/02 and authorization for City Manager to sign contract documents. DATE: August 27, 2001 BACKGROUND: The City Council approved the Parks, Recreation & Family Services to enter into agreements with the State Department of Education to provide latchkey childcare services to the community. This contract is ongoing, but has to be renewed each fiscal year. Historically the City Manager has been the designated authority to sign all state contracts. DIS CUSSION/ANALYSIS: For fiscal year 2001/02, the Extended Day Care Latchkey Grant will make services available for approximately 200 school-age children from low-income families. The state requires a designated authority to sign on behalf of the City for all childcare contracts. FINANCIAL IMPACT: Last year's grant was $372,710. This year's grant is $400,964 resulting in an increase in revenue of $28,254 for the Latchkey Grant. The increase in funds should be placed into account 206-5768 (revenue), and should be charged to expenditure account #206-7200-7202-2304. There is no general fund impact. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: None Staff recommends that City Council approve the above increase and adopt the resolution and altered budget to enter into agreement No. GLTK-1082 with the Department of Education for Childcare Services. Staff also recommends authorization for the City Manager to sign the contract documents necessary to effectuate the City's approval of contract GLTK-1082 for Childcare.
