Heusterberg, Chief of Police <br />SUBJECT: Approval of Rules and Regulations Regarding Taxi Service <br />Pursuant to Colton Municipal Code Section 5.48 <br />DATE: February 12, 2002 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Chapter 5.48 of the Colton Municipal Code sets forth the requirements and standards for <br />taxi service. Section 5.48.11 O(A) of the code authorizes the City Council to promulgate <br />additional rules and regulations concerning taxi service. These additional rules and <br />regulations are designed to assist the Police Department and City staff by providing <br />additional guidance concerning the regulation of taxi cabs. <br />ANALYSIS/DISCUSSIOR. <br />The attached rules and regulations contain the following provisions: <br />1. They limit the term of any permit for no longer than one (1) year - <br />2. They provide regulations for determining the need for additional taxi permits. <br />3. They specify the open enrollment period for considering additional taxi permits; and <br />4. They include operating regulations to assure the safety of passengers. <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: <br />None. <br />FISCAL IMPACT: <br />None <br />
