CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />FOR THE COUNCIL MEETING OF JANUARY 15, 2002 <br />TO: HON. MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL <br />FROM: AL HOLLIMAN, Assistant City Manager <br />TERESA S. DELGADO, Human Resources Manager <br />Item #7 <br />SUBJECT: Approve Military Leave Compensation for Military Reservists (Regular <br />Active Employees) called to Active Duty <br />DATE: January 5, 2002 <br />The City of Colton provides Military Leave for its full-time employees who are members of a reserve <br />component of the Armed Forces or the National Guard, pursuant to 5 U.S. C. 6323(b) <br />ANALYSIS/DISCUSSION: <br />Under the City's present procedure, the military reservist receives 30 calendar days of military leave <br />compensation. With the country at war, it is proposed that the City of Colton pay the difference between <br />the eligible City employee's regular City salary and his/her total military salary, not to exceed a period of <br />one year. <br />This item has been discussed with the City Attorney who advised that City Council could consider and act <br />on this matter so long as a period of time was established. <br />Survey of the City's workforce reveals that there are approximately four (4) military reservists who may <br />be called to active duty. <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: This item does not carry environmental impact. <br />FISCAL IMPACT: <br />The City's Department Heads have agreed that any temporary vacancies caused as a result of employees <br />being activated to will not be filled by temporary employees. As a result no additional costs are expected <br />from implementing this policy. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />It is respectfully recommended that the Members of the City Council approve and adopt the proposed <br />resolution authorizing supplemental compensation for the City's military reservists who are called to <br />active duty. <br />Aft <br />City Attorney: U xt^- ENS Finance Director: <br />OTHER: <br />
