MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL <br />FROM: AMER JAHKER, P.E., CITY ENGINEERS w_ A" <br />SUBJECT: AUTHORIZATION REQUEST TO APPROVE THE <br />TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE OF "H" STREET IN ORDER <br />TO CONSTRUCT STREET IMPROVEMENTS IN <br />CONJUCTION WITH THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE <br />HAMPTON INN PROJECT. <br />DATE: JUNE 6, 2002 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Reconstruction of H Street has been previously authorized as part of the Hampton <br />Inn Project, currently in final phase of completion. To facilitate construction of the <br />section of H Street between 9"' and 10"' Street, contractor is requesting temporary <br />closure of H Street from June 24, 2002 to August 2, 2002. This closure will not create <br />hardship for the motorist, since adequate detour options are available. <br />ANALYSIS/DISCUSSION: <br />The Developer has requested authorization to close H Street to all traffic between 9t° <br />and 10"' Street from June 24, 2002 to August 2, 2002. This closure will create a safer <br />environment for construction work and the general public. Staff has determined that <br />proposed closure will not adversely affect traffic circulation. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />None. <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: <br />A Mitigated Negative Declaration for this project was approved by the City Council <br />on 4-17-02. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff recommends that Council authorize the closure of H Street between 911` and 10"' <br />Street from June 24, 2002 to August 2, 2002. <br />
