Item #16 CITY OF COLTON AGENDA REPORT FOR THE COUNCIL MEETING OF OCTOBER 15, 2002 TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS FROM: AMER JAKHER P.E., CITY ENGINEER SUBJECT: REQUEST FOR APPROVAL OF CHANGE ORDER #1 AND #2 FOR THE CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT OF RICH DAUER PARK IMPROVEMENT PROJECT IN THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF $24,624.08 DATE: OCTOBER 2, 2002 BACKGROUND: On November 6, 2001, the City Council awarded the construction contract of Rich Dauer Park Improvement Project to Coglley and Son, Inc. in the amount of $182,950.00. During the course of construction, plan and layout of sidewalk was revised for safety consideration and to avoid an existing tree. Additional concrete was removed and replaced from the picnic area due to existing cracks in the slab, and additional fill material was required on the location of playground equipment due to the removal of paved basketball court. All of these modifications are part of Change Order #1 with a total amount of $15,865.00. Change Order #2 is for the installation of Safety Surfacing Mat on three (3) locations. The contractor price for this item was based on the black colored matting. The City prefers a combination of blue and yellow to blend with the color of the Playground Equipment and provide a cooler surface. The total amount for this Change Order is $8,759.08. DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: Change Order #1 is in the amount of $15,865.00 and represents 8.67% of the contract price. Change Order #2 is the amount of $8,759.08 and represents 4.79% of contract price. The total of this two Change Order is $24,624.08 and represents 13.46% of contract price. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: The said public improvements are Exempt under Section 15301 (Existing Facilities) of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).
