City of Colton <br />Item #13 <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF SEPTEMBER 3, 2002 <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL <br />FROM: DILU DE ALWIS, FINANCE DIRECTOR <br />SUBJECT: APPROVE A REQUEST TO ESTABLISH AN ELIGIBILITY LIST FOR THE POSITION OF SENIOR <br />ACCOUNTANT IN THE FINANCE DEPARTMENT <br />DATE: AUGUST 22, 2002 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The Finance Department has two Senior Accountants on staff at the present time. Additionally there are two management <br />level positions in the department that are vacant and recruitments are in the final stages. A Senior Accountant position in <br />the Finance Department is anticipated to become vacant within the next month. The salary range for this position is <br />$3,485 - $4,236 per month. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYIS: <br />A Senior Accountant position in the Finance Department is anticipated to become vacant within the month. This is due to <br />one of the current Senior Accountants is a leading candidate for a vacant management level position. The Senior <br />Accountant position is critical for the operation of the department and needs to be filled with minimum delay in the case the <br />position becomes vacant. The candidate chosen will meet the education and experience requirements as specified in the <br />job description. Filling this position will enable the department to continue to provide a high level of customer service to the <br />internal and external customers. <br />ALTERNATIVE: <br />Do not fill this position and direct remaining staff to cover the additional workload. This however will impact the quality of <br />the work performed and will create additional overtime costs. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />This is a General Fund position and is funded for the 2001-2002 fiscal year as follows: 100-6040-6041-1010 (salary) and <br />100-6040-6041-1100 (benefits). <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff recommends approval of the recruitment and ratification of the employee appointment to the full time position of <br />Senior Accountant as recommended by the Finance Director. <br />REVIEW TEAM <br />"Ity Attorney: <br />City Manager: <br />Finance Director: <br />OTHER: /�?44L./7%— <br />
