CITY OF COLTON AGENDA REPORT FOR THE COUNCIL MEETING OF, DECEMBER 2, 2003 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council FROM: Dilu de Alwis, Finance Director ---- Item #8 SUBJECT: Request for Recruitment and Ratification of Employee Appointment for the Full -Time Position of Information Services Coordinator in the Finance Department DATE: November 24, 2003 BACKGROUND: Due to a resignation effective December 23, 2003, there will be a vacancy in the Services Division of the Police Department for an Information Services Coordinator (IS Coordinator). The existing salary range for this position is $4,715 - $5,731 per month. ANALYSIS/DISCUSSION: The Services Division of the Police Department has a position for an IS Coordinator which is currently filled. The employee holding this position has turned in his resignation and his last, working date is December 23, 2003. This is a critical position for the Police Department and needs to be filled immediately. After evaluating the tasks associated with this position, the IS Manager has concluded that the functions of the Police IS Coordinator can be handled by the existing staff of his division by merely upgrading one of the two Network Technicians to an IS Coordinator. The IS Division of the Finance Department has employees eligible for promotion to this position to rneet the needs of the Police Department. The successful candidate will be subject to a background investigation per Police Department policies. FISCAL IMPACT: The additional cost of this promotion (approximately $6,000) will be covered by savings in other line items in the IS Division budget. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: None CONFLICT OF INTEREST — Gift Disclosure Requirements None RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the City Council approve the recruitment and ratification of employee appointment to the full time position of Information Services Coordinator.
