Item #16
CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
For the Council Meeting of July 1, 2003
TO: Honorable Mayor & City Council
FROM: Ron Kenny, Director of Community Services i
Amer Jakher, City Engineer
SUBJECT: Request for In-house Employee Recruitment, Ratification
and Appointment to Three Full-time Budgeted Positions of
Parks Maintenance Crew Leader within the Landscaping
Division of the Engineering Department.
DATE: June 23, 2003
BACKGROUND:
On June 10, 2003 the City Council approved the City's FY 2003 — 2004 budget.
Within the Engineering Department's Landscaping Division are three budgeted
Parks Maintenance Crew Leader positions. Staff is requesting to fill those
positions.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS:
These are not new additional positions, but were existing Maintenance Worker III
positions in last year's budget. The Crew leader title is needed to better identify
the role now played by the Division's Maintenance Worker Ill's. It is also an
opportunity to compensate these employees for the responsibility. Currently, a
MW III is responsible for a work crew. The position oversees the daily scheduling
of work, supervision of that work and acts as quality control in an effort to assure
the best possible results.
Staff is recommending an in-house recruitment be held. No eligibility list
currently exists for a Parks Maintenance Crew Leader.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The salary range for a Parks Maintenance Crew Leader is $3,065 - $3,725.
Salary funding for these positions would come from Account #100-6200-6205-
1010 and Account #702-6200-6210-1010.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
None
