Item #18
CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF MAY 6, 2003
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR & CITY COUNCIL
APPROVAL: DARYL PARRISH, CITY MANAGER
FROM: DILU DE ALWIS, FINANCE DIRECTOR kv
SUBJECT: AWARD A CONTRACT FOR THE PURCHASE OF THREE F150 PICK-UP TRUCKS
FOR THE PUBLIC SERVICES DEPARTMENT TO WONDRIES FORD FLEET DIVISION
IN THE AMOUNT OF $62,225.61. ADOPT THE ATTACHED RESOLUTION TO
APPROPRIATE FUNDS FOR THE PURCHASE OF THE VEHICLES.
BACKGROUND
The City Council approved the replacement of old, high mileage vehicles for the City Public
Services Department in the 2002-03 fiscal year budget. The purchase of the vehicles will be
replacing three existing vehicles for the Public Services Department. The vehicles that will be
replaced are, 1) Unit # 176 - 1981 Ford pick up 2) Unit # 182 - 1981 Ford pick up 3) Unit # 624 -
1987 Dodge pick up.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS
Recently the City of Santa Monica solicited bids and awarded a contract to Wondries Ford Fleet
Division for Ford F150 pick up trucks. Therefore, the City of Colton can tag onto the City of
Santa Monica's Bid #14862.The City of Colton can tag on to this bid and purchase three pick-
ups for the same price.
The vehicle proposed is a Dedicated Compressed Natural Gas vehicle and is incompliance with
South Coast Air Quality Management District's Rule 1191, "Clean On -Road Light and Medium
Duty Public Fleet Vehicles". They meet the California Air Resources Board's certification for
"Low Emissions -Vehicles" (LEV).
ALTERNATIVES
Go out to competitive bid, which will delay the purchase of these vehicles for the Public
Services Department. It is also highly unlikely that a more favorable price for the trucks would
be obtained.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
The funds are available in the FY 2002-03 budget for the Pollution Reduction Fund in account
number 214-7000-7011-4910.
Report prepared by Nicole Mddd, Buyer
Attachments; Resolution
