CITY OF COLTON Item #11 <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF SEPTEMBER 2, 2003 <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL <br />FROM: AMER JAKHER, P.E., CITY ENGINEER 166 ) <br />SUBJECT: REQUEST FOR RECRUITMENT AND RATIFICATION OF EMPLOYEE <br />APPOINTMENTS TO THE FULL-TIME POSITIONS OF CREW <br />LEADER IN THE PUBLIC SERVICES DEPARTMENT, STREET <br />DIVISION <br />DATE: August 25, 2003 <br />BACKGROUND: On September 4, 2003, Public Services Supervisor, for the Street Division will <br />be retiring. In lieu of a supervisor position, a crew leader position for the Division was approved in <br />the 2003/2004 budgets, resulting in a salary savings of $376.00 a month, ($4,512.00 annually). <br />The candidate selected will be responsible for leading, overseeing and performing the more <br />complex duties associated with traffic signs, traffic painting and graffiti abatement. The salary <br />range is $3,120 - $3,792.00 per month. <br />Staff is also requesting the recruitment and ratification of a second crew leader position. The <br />incumbent is retiring on December 23, 2003. The actual appointment will not be made until <br />December 29, 2003. The candidate selected for this position will be responsible for leading, <br />overseeing and performing the more complex duties associated with tree trimming, asphalt <br />repairs and weed abatement. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: The first position is primarily assigned to the traffic sign, traffic <br />painting and graffiti abatement crews, however, the candidate may be required to lead, oversee, <br />review and perform other work activities and duties assigned to the other street maintenance <br />crews. Currently, there is an eligibility list which was established May 29, 2003. The candidate <br />selected would meet the education and experience requirements as specified in the job <br />description. <br />The second position is primarily assigned to the tree trimming, asphalt and weed abatement <br />crews, however, the candidate may be required to lead, oversee, review and perform other work <br />activities and duties assigned to the other street maintenance crews. Currently, there is an <br />eligibility list which was established May 29, 2003. The candidate selected would meet the <br />education and experience requirements as specified in the job description. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: All funds have been approved in the 2003/2004 budgets. These positions <br />are funded as follows: Account No. 100-6150-6160-1010 (Salaries -Miscellaneous) and Account <br />No. 100-6150-6160-1100 (Salary Related Benefits). <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: None <br />
