CITY OF COLTON AGENDA REPORT FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF April 20, 2004 Item #17 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council FROM: Ron Kenny, Director of Community Services j SUBJECT: Request The Closure of "E" Street between Colton Avenue and Mount Vernon Street, and approval of parking along Colton Avenue easement for City Sponsored Unity Day Celebration DATE: April 12, 2004 BACKGROUND: The City of Colton will be holding its Third Annual Unity Day Celebration on Saturday, May 15, 2004. The event will be held in Cesar Chavez Park from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: In the interest of safety, staff is recommending the closure of "E" Street between Colton Avenue and Mount Vernon Avenue. The closure would be from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and residents in the neighborhood adjacent to "E" Street would be notified of the closure prior to the event. Those residents who reside along "E" Street would be allowed to enter and exit the street from 12th Street. Additionally, due to the anticipated need for overflow parking for the public, staff also recommends that parking be made available in the easement along Colton Avenue, between "E" and "C" Streets. The Police and Fire Departments have reviewed and approved the closure. FINANCIAL IMPACT: Those monitoring the closure locations and parking areas will include part-time City staff and Police/Fire Explorer Scouts. The financial impact to the City would be minimal and covered within the costs of the event. ENVIROMENTAL IMPACT: None RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approval of the closure of "E" Street between Colton Avenue and Mount Vernon Avenue, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., on Saturday, May 15, 2004. Staff also recommends approval of the use of the easement along Colton Avenue for public parking on this date.
