I write to express my support of IHSS, as the largest home and
community-based program in California, and which is recognized as the
cornerstone of the state's long-term care system
The IHSS shares the same severe cutbacks that Colton, as well as other cities
across the state, has recently experienced. Rest assured, you are not alone in
this great effort to preserve what we have. I am quite familiar with the task of
having to cut vital programs that serve the underprivileged, young and elderly
members of our community. I firmly believe that eliminating funding for family
members who care for their loved ones will force many individuals to
institutionalize their loved ones, Moreover, IHSS workers will be faced with
reduced wages and loss of benefits, which will further result in a reduced
workforce, services and quality care.
It is with great appreciation that I write this letter to the IHSS Program and
express my personal support to each individual IHSS worker that cares for our
elderly, blind and disabled citizens. You are the ones that provide the care
and love that our people need to stay in their homes and avoid placements in
nursing homes. Your hard work is of great value to loved ones, as well as to
our community, and I support your cause to oppose budget cuts that will
impact our most vulnerable citizens.
Respectfully yours,
JD U'Al"
Deirdre H.
