CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF October 5, 2004 <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL <br />FROM: Tom Hendrix, Fire Chief <br />SUBJECT: Approve Request for Recruitment and Ratification of Employee <br />Appointment to the Position of Firefighter Medic <br />DATE: September 27, 2004 <br />Item #6 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The existing Firefighter Medic eligibility list has been exhausted and the Fire Department is <br />requesting approval to establish a new list. Attached is the job description for Firefighter Medic; <br />the salary range is $4,050.30 - $4,923.19. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: <br />The Fire Department does not currently have any vacant positions; however, in the event of an <br />unexpected vacancy, it will take approximately five to six months to complete the recruiting <br />process and create a new eligibility list. During this period, the position would have to be filled <br />with overtime. If a current eligibility list is maintained, the amount of time required to fill an <br />unexpected vacancy can be reduced to about six weeks. <br />Recruitment for said position will be conducted and an eligibility list established upon Council <br />approval. The candidate chosen will meet the education and experience requirements as <br />specified in the job description. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />Funds for the position have been budgeted in the 2004-05 Fiscal Year from Account Number <br />100-6090-6091-1010 (Salaries) and 100-6090-6091-1100 (Salary Related Benefits). <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: <br />None. <br />CONFLICT OF INTEREST <br />None. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff recommends that the City Council approve the request for recruitment and ratification of <br />employee appointment to the full-time position of Firefighter Medic in the Fire Department. <br />Attachment: Job Description <br />REVIEW TEAM ONLY <br />City Attorney:_..of, Finance Director: <br />City Manager:_ OTHER: <br />
