CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF OCTOBER 5, 2004 <br />Item #17 <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL <br />FROM: K. RULON, CHIEF OF POLICE <br />SUBJECT: AWARD A CONTRACT FOR THE PURCHASE OF ONE DNG 1 -TON <br />TRUCK WITH AN ANIMAL CONTROL BODY FOR THE POLICE <br />DEPARTMENT TO WONDRIES FLEET DIVISION IN AN AMOUNT <br />NOT TO EXCEED $55,000.00. <br />DATE: SEPTEMBER 27, 2004 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The Police Department is in need of a vehicle to replace one of the current trucks used for animal <br />control services, which has proven to be unreliable for daily use. The funds to obtain this vehicle <br />are currently available in the Pollution Reduction Fund balance account. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: <br />The Police Department Animal Control Unit is in need of a vehicle to replace an aging, unreliable <br />vehicle in the fleet. The Police Department desires to purchase a Chevrolet 1 -ton truck with an <br />animal control body. The City of Monterrey recently awarded a contract to. Wondries Fleet Division <br />for the purchase of a like vehicle, Bid #33154034347. The piggyback bid from Wondries Ford <br />Fleet Division is still available and vehicles are ready for delivery. <br />Section 3.08.100 of the City's Purchasing Ordinance allows the City to enter into agreements with <br />other agencies for the purchase of supplies, services and equipment. In such instances, the <br />procedures of that agency shall satisfy all city requirements for the bid and award of those <br />purchases. The City of Colton can piggyback onto the City of Monterrey bid #33154034347 for the <br />purchase of one (1) Chevrolet 1 -ton DNG Truck with an animal control body. <br />The vehicle proposed for purchase is a Chevrolet 1 -ton truck with an animal control body that are <br />Dedicated Compressed Natural Gas (DNG) vehicles that are in compliance with South Coast Air <br />Quality Management District's Rule 1191, "Clean On -Road Light and Medium Duty Public Fleet <br />Vehicles." They meet the California Air Resources Board's certification for "Low Emissions - <br />Vehicles (LEV)." <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />The funds are currently available in the Pollution Reduction Fund account 214-7000-7011-4910. <br />There is no General Fund Impact. <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: <br />None <br />ALTERNATIVES: <br />Go out to competitive bid, which will delay the purchase of this vehicle.
