Item #14 <br />CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />FOR THE COUNCIL MEETING OF OCTOBER 19, 2004 <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council Members <br />FROM: Ken Rulon, Chief of Police <br />SUBJECT: Approval of Local Law Enforcement Block Grant (LLEBG 2004) <br />DATE: October 10, 2004 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The United States Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance, is providing funds for the <br />2004 Local Law Enforcement Block Grant program. This grant would provide funding for police <br />equipment and programs. The City of Colton is eligible to receive a total of $16,099, under this <br />grant. <br />ANALYSIS/DISCUSSION: <br />Through this block grant program, the police department intends to purchase equipment capable of <br />enhancing communication between Patrol Units and Dispatch. The Police Department will <br />purchase up to five (5) Motorola 850VRM modems with the RD LAP 19.2 protocol; a total of <br />twenty-five (25) are needed to properly outfit the patrol fleet. These modems are required to <br />connect with the County's Motorola "backbone" communications network. The remainder of the <br />funds will be used for specialized holiday patrol programs. <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: <br />None. <br />FISCAL IMPACT: <br />The Federal Grant award provides a total of $16,099 for the grant year. The City must match this <br />award with $1,789, for a total of $17,888. The matching fund amount will be funded through asset <br />seizure account 261-6070-6083. There is no impact on the general fund. There is no waiver of <br />matching funds within this grant award. <br />KR/Jg <br />
