FRASER, DIRECTOR OF WATER & WASTEWATER OPERATIONS <br />SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF REQUEST FOR RECRUITMENT AND RATIFICATION OF ONE <br />EMPLOYEE APPOINTMENT TO FULL-TIME POSITION OF WASTEWATER <br />EQUIPMENT MECHANIC I IN THE WASTEWATER DEPARTMENT <br />DATE: October 12, 2004 <br />BACKGROUND <br />There currently is a vacancy of the full-time position of Wastewater Equipment Mechanic I in the CUA <br />Wastewater Division. The salary range for this position is $3,141-$3,819 per month. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS <br />The Wastewater Department currently has one equipment mechanic vacancy at the treatment plant. The <br />treatment plant already operates with a limited number of staff. Filling this vacancy is essential to <br />completing the necessary repairs and preventative maintenance without expending unnecessary overtime <br />utilizing other staff or contractors. There is currently only one mechanic at the facility. This position will <br />provide the necessary redundancy necessary to maintain plant operations at an acceptable level. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT <br />There are budgeted funds in the current fiscal budget for these salaries which will be charged to Account <br />Numbers 522-8200-8200-1010 (Salaries) and 522-8200-8200-1100 (Related Benefits). <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT <br />There is no environmental impact. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends that the Colton Utility Authority approve the request for recruitment and ratification of an <br />employee appointment to the full-time position of Wastewater Equipment Mechanic I in the Wastewater <br />Division. <br />Report prepared by: Eric R.
