ITEM #13
CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF July 5, 2005
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
FROM: Jeannette Olko, Electric Utility General Manager
SUBJECT: Approve Recruitment and Ratification of Employee Appointment to the
Position of Senior Meter Reader in the Electric Utility Department
DATE: June 27, 2005
BACKGROUND:
The Senior Meter Reader is the lead person responsible for the accurate and timely reading of electrical
and water meters throughout the City of Colton. The position ensures that electrical and water use data is
input for billing of customers. The salary range for this position is $3,637 - $4,419
°per month.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS:
The Electric Utility Department desires to create an eligibility list for the Senior Meter Reader in
preparation for a possible vacancy due to a long-term medical leave of absence with an indefinite date of
return. Continuing to hold the position vacant pending a potential but not guaranteed return would
substantially undermine the department's ability to operate safely and efficiently. This position provides
valuable support to the department and is needed to ensure smooth operation of the meter reading
function. Creating an eligibility list at this time would facilitate a smooth transition should the vacancy
occur.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
Funds are budgeted in account number 520-8000-8003-1010-0580-000, Salaries, Substation Division.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
None
CONFLICT OF INTEREST:
None
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that City Council approve the request for recruitment and ratification of employee
appointment to the position of Senior Meter Reader in the Electric Utility Department.
PREPARED BY:
Anthony Siegfried, Acting Substation Superintendent
REVIEW TEAM ONLY
City Attorney: 4- Finance Director:
City Manager: OTHER: 2AA C
