Item #13
CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
1 -UK VUUNUIL MLL I INU Ur
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council Members
FROM: Bill Smith — Community Services Director
SUBJECT: Request Approval for Part-time Salary Increase for
Recreation Leader & Senior Recreation Leader
Classifications in the Community Services Department
DATE: May 18, 2005
BACKGROUND:
The Community Services Department employs part-time Recreation Leaders and Senior
Recreation Leaders. These positions are essential in the planning and implementation of
recreation programs and events. The positions have not had a salary increase since
January, 2002.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS:
These part-time positions play an integral role in the Community Services Department.
These individuals are instrumental in assisting with program support, facility supervision,
and customer service. The current salary range for Recreation Leader is $6.75 to $7.45
per hour, and the current salary range for Senior Recreation Leader is $7.72 to $8.52 per
hour. Based on a survey of surrounding cities for comparable positions, the data suggests
that a salary increase is warranted. A copy of this survey, as well as the recommended
salary adjustments, is attached. Due to the responsibilities of this position, it is important
to ensure that the pay range for this position is competitive to prohibit excessive turn -over
and assure program stability.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The financial impact of this increase has been included in department budget projections
for the coming fiscal year 2005-06.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
None
CONFLICT OF INTEREST:
None
