CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF June 7. 2005 <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council Members <br />Item #14 <br />FROM: Bill Smith, Community Services Directo/r <br />SUBJECT: Approve and Accept AB212 Stipend forChildcare Employees in the <br />Community Services Department <br />DATE: May 23, 2005 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />California Assembly Bill 212 (AB212) was passed by the State Legislature to increase employee <br />retention in State -subsidized child care centers and preschools. The San Bernardino County <br />program is a yearly, stipend -based program with 8 levels. The program awards stipends to <br />employees who are enrolled in school with class work in Early Childhood Education programs. <br />This is the fourth consecutive year that Colton Childcare employees have received this stipend. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: <br />This year's stipend to Colton Childcare employees is $23,450. There are 17 employees in the <br />Childcare Division who qualify for this stipend, which is a testament to the dedication of these <br />employees to their chosen field. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />There is no general fund impact from this program. The funds will be placed into Childcare <br />revenue account 206-5889, and the appropriation in Childcare expenditure account 206-7200- <br />7202-1160 will be increased by the stipend amount of $23,450. <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: <br />None <br />CONFLICT OF INTEREST: <br />None <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff recommends that City Council approve and accept the AB212 Stipend for Childcare <br />Employees in the Community Services Department. <br />Resolution <br />REVIEW TEAM ONLY <br />Attorney: =!r— A `7 -1 Finance Director: <br />OTHER: <br />
